{ Gorgeous afternoon @ Stanford Art Museum }

 アーティストの友人に誘われて、スタンフォード大の美術展（本のアート展）に行ってきました。本のアート自体は、カリフォルニアで古くに印刷されたものを紹介するもので、たいしたことなかったのですが、やはり常設展の方のスタンフォード家のコレクションが充実していて感銘を受けました。特に彫刻家ロダンの作品数では世界的に有名なのだそうです。

My artist friend invited us to go together to see “book art exhibition” at Stanford University Cantor Art Center. The place is famous for Stanford family’s large collection of Rodin sculptures. As well as Rodin, we could see some of anthropologic art collections from Egypt, Africa, and then modern art.   Her son is a best friend of my son while they studied at Delphi Academy so that we try to get together once in a while for them.  We tried to teach what are they in those books and however, 2 boys are too happy to see each other running around in and out of the gallery space. There was an outside objet boys really liked, which was a huge maze-like rusty metal architecture we can actually walk through inside.

Egyptian Art

I normally dislike contemporary art...I like old style, but kids like this panda art and asked me to take a photo.
現代アートの部屋にあったパンダ。漫画みたい。子供は喜びました。

子供たちがミュージアムショップで磁石のおもちゃをお土産に買いました。館内コーヒーショップで一休みもしました。

どういう意味をこめたのかわからないが、内部が貝のように渦巻きになっている。鉄のオブジェの内側から空を見るといろいろな形に見える。

A very European style campus building, there must be a lot of young people in the campus on week days but the day was on Sunday. So quiet that only a few families nearby, dogs and tourists can be seen.

My friend brought scooters for kids so they can play after the museum. The boys are very good at scooters. They are not tired at all!

美しいキャンパスの建物。日曜なので、学生の姿はなく閑散としていて、ゆっくりできました。時々、近所の人の犬の散歩や、ジョギング姿、観光客を見かけました。

{ End of Summer Play Date }

夏休みも終わりに近づき、ピアノのお友達と隣町の公園でプレイデートをしました。３人のお子さんがいらっしゃるお家なので、うちの子含めて年の近い子が４人、とてもにぎやかで楽しかったです。プレイデートというのは、お母さん同伴で公園などで互いの子供たちをを遊ばせることで、日本の幼児の公園デビューのようなものです。その間にお母さんたち（っといっても２人だけ）で世間話をするのですが、それがまた、日ごろの忙しさを忘れて楽しいのです。日本と違って、アメリカには大人の同伴なしに、小学生だけで遊びに出かけることは習慣としてないようです。もっとも、近くの公園といっても車で行かなければなりませんので。

公園には、屋台のアイスクリーム屋さんが売りに来ていて、子供たちは早速、毒々しい色のアイスをせがみました、っというより、袋に入っていたのでわからなかったのですが、そのアイスは、スパイダーマンの形をしており、目が風船ガムでできていました。息子は、～ハーゲンダッツよりもおいしいよ～と言いました。

Summer break is almost over! We had play date with my son's piano friend. The day was nice in the nearby park. The boy has a younger brother and an older sister so 4 of them played together. While playing, an ice cream bender came by so kids were screaming they want to buy it. We had to let them otherwise they might be so disappointed... They chose  spiderman shape ice candies and its eyes were 2 bubble gums attached to it! No wonder kids loved it.

• 私は子供の絵は大好きだ。その大胆な色使いや、デッサンのすこしくるった面白い形、飾りたくなるものがたくさんある。大人は良く考えて描いてしまうので、絵が当たり前になってしまい、面白くない。

• 姪の絵がすこし大人びてとてもよくなってきた。習っているだけ合って、筆のおき方がとても丁寧だ。Chibartのあつお先生によると、「力があって人をひきつける」との評でした。私が誉めると、太い線はひいおじいちゃんのマネなんだって。会ったことないのに、やっぱり尊敬しているんだ。祖父は好きな山を描くとき、綺麗なふわふわっと、うっとりするようなパステルカラーをたくさん使った。色にうっとりしていると、山が大きくなってきて、広大な奥行きが見えてくる。見る人を、その場に立たせる。色彩感覚が非常に鋭い人なのだ。祖父が若き日々を過ごした、モンマルトルにもう一度行きたい！ Je veux aller à Montmartre à nouveau!

• 息子のほうは動物画が大好きだ。アメリカの教室、Creative Kidsでも生き物の絵ばかり描く。魚、鳥、爬虫類、コアラ。Chibartののりこ先生も動物画をお描きになるようだ。子供と象とシェパード犬の絵が飾ってあった。象は先生の大学のそばにいつもいるからだろうか？そういえばChibartのホームページにも象が。今回の教室での課題は帆船だったが、やはりイルカとシャチを描くのを忘れなかった。のりこ先生に、息子の今までの絵を何点かお見せしたら、カメレオンのがよく描けている、とおっしゃった。早速、額にいれて飾ろう。

上２つ、姪の油絵。まだ小学生なのに、ひいおじいちゃんみたいに、太い線を意識して描いたのだと言いました。

My niece can draw this in short time, look at the colors she chose!

姪は小一時間でこんなに素敵な絵を描きます。このまま本の挿絵にしたいぐらい。色の選択が大胆かつ抜群です！（７月のChibartでの作品）

Chibartののりこ先生がほめてくださった息子の絵です。何点か、これまでの作品を見てもらい、これが特によくできているとおっしゃいました。

This is the Japanese art school "Chibart" my son went.

夕暮れ時のChibartの正面玄関。いつも生徒さんたちの自転車でいっぱい。Chibartでは、まず、よいところをしっかりと言葉で褒める教育が行われており、生徒たちはアートの才能を伸ばすことはもとより、自信のある子供に成長しています。今回、私がバタバタしていて、アメリカから息子の予約をとるの忘れていたですが、先生方も気さくで、突然伺ったのに快く受け入れてくださいました。

{ Hearty Stay in Japan }

今回のステイは中５日間マレーシアにも行ってバタバタし、１週間ほどと、いつもより短かったためか、私にとってはもっといたかったなあと思いました。１週間だと、日本の友人たちに会うには短いのですが、アメリカで知り合った友人が上野に行くのに母娘でつきあってくれました。彼女たちは科学博物館に行ったのは今回が初めてだったとのことです。1年ぶりに会った大人たちは話に夢中でろくに恐竜も見ていない？っといった状態でしたが、子供たちは見て、学んで、触れて、楽しんでいたようです。特に皆、以外にも旧館のほうのエンジニアリングの常設展が気に入ったようでした。体験学習型の設備で、ずいぶんと長いこと遊んでいました。

Ah hah! I love my Japan vacations every year! Nice to see my parents are happy and healthy, surprised my nephews and nieces are growing up! My lovely little niece is now so independent and having fun in school. My big niece is advanced in piano, art, and study…she is so talented! For sure she is a hard working girl... My son joined the art school nearby and the teacher remember and welcome him again. The weather was nice even though Typhoon #6 was around. We had summer heat for a few days then cooled down after. On the cooler day, we ride bicycle to Toshimaen Movie Theater, the movie was very Japanese and good! On the hot day, my son tried “cool shampoo service” in barber shop and he liked it so much, excited to mention it since then.

南光幼稚園で盆踊りが行われた。商店街の企画で、子供にタダでお菓子を配るため、長い列ができました。

My son tried this and did not like it. He liked Takoyaki so much.

Bicycling to Toshimaen Theater was a great experience for my son !

石神井川沿いの側道を行くと、豊島園の森が見えてきます。

Toshimaen is a local leisure spot for families, it has toy stores, theaters, fair ground and restaurants

豊島園は園内施設の昆虫館の自由に触れるカブトムシ放し飼いコーナーがお勧めです。

今回はユナイテッドシネマで宮崎アニメのコクリコ坂を見ましたが、ほんわかしてなかなかよかったです。

{ Taoism, The Immigrant Chinese Culture }

今回、華僑である夫の実家が、道教式の興味深い法事を執り行ったので息子を連れて参加して来ました。イギリス、台湾、アメリカに散在する親族たちにも召集がかかり、めったに会うことのない親戚が集うよい機会となりました。この街、クアラルンプールは、ヤシの木が生え、スコールか降り、エキゾチックなイスラムの祈りの歌が拡声器でモスクから鳴り響き、中国、インド、アラブ、欧米からの観光客が多くみられます。ハコ物の建設ラッシュ、道路は大渋滞、国際色豊かな喧騒の街です。

I had a chance to attend my husband family cultural event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They are immigrant Chinese family and majority of immigrant Chinese scattered in the world believe so called Taoism, a kind of religion. The event is for appliciation for 3 generations, my husband's father, grand and "grand grand" parents. The event is consist of many sessions of pray, dance, performance, exotic singing and music by the priests, so and so on. The finale is burning a big paper house and cars, houses, servants, and most importantly presentation of money remedies. Too big fire flame in the city of Kuala Lumpur night!!

道教とは仏教から派生した中国の多神教で、多くの華僑が信仰する。
それ以上のことは私は知らないので、興味のある人はググってみてください。

 

クアラルンプール市内の道教寺院は、ムスク（イスラム寺院）に隣接する。
この街ではイスラムの祈りの歌が拡声器で鳴り響くなかで、道教の銅鑼の音が交錯するのである。

華僑にとって、財を築くということは、人生において非常に重要なこととされる。これらは紙で折られたお金の象徴物であり、多くの親戚が今年の１月ごろから今日のイベントで故人たちに供えるために折った。
これらもイベントのフィナーレで燃やされる。




道教の儀式は、７名の祭司による祈り、歌、楽器演奏、軽快なステップにより構成され、１時間ほどのセッションが１日中４、５回繰り返された。各セッションで親族は適宜線香を持ち、整列して祈りをささげる。



儀式が一日中行われるため、昼、夕食、おやつ、夜食の炊き出しがおこなわれた。ただし、料理は精進料理。

いよいよフィナーレに近づくと、祭司によるパーフォーマンスが豪快な銅鑼の音にのって行われる。

紙でできた家など、全ての供物が寺院からとなりの空き地に運び出された。手前の人と比べてその大きさがよくわかる。

フィナーレで燃やされる紙の供物。市街地で大きな火柱がたった。輻射熱で顔がヒリヒリと熱くなるほどの業火にビックリ！

 

{ My Galaxy! 4th of July Firework in Foster City }

７月４日はアメリカ合衆国独立記念日です。一般に毎年この日は、アメリカ国民は家族、親戚の集まりや、花火大会などでお祝いします。うちの家族は自宅からルート８８０で２０分ほどの、フォスターシティーの花火を見に行きました。有名な花火らしく、すごい人出でした。サンフランシスコ湾沿岸の都市なので、夜が涼しく、ジャケットを着用しました。大きな音、頭上真上に大きくあがる花火を３０分ほど満喫しました。

Foster City Firework

 1st time our family went to see 4th of July Firework! There was a big one in Foster City, my friend told me. We went there around 8 pm. It's water front so night time was a bit cool and we needed jackets. Firework was so big in the sky with a big noise while I never seen them so close. Even my home town's "Toshimaen hanabi" was not that close.  So many people came out to see and we sat down on the street and watched the sky right above. Thank she told me, this was a good choice for 4th of July fun.

So artistic! It has meny variation of shapes and colors, red, blue, and green.
